JustRead Tours: Review: Silver Moon by Jenny Knipfer

Welcome to the Blog + Review Tour & Giveaway for the By the Light of the Moon series by Jenny Knipfer, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOKS

Title: Silver Moon
Series: By the Light of the Moon #3
Author: Jenny Knipfer
Release Date: June 30, 2020
Genre: Inspirational Historical Romance

Silver Moon, the third book in the series: By the Light of the Moon, paints a stunning and poignant picture of life on the home front in Webaashi Bay, Ontario, and of three men who are a part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during WWI.

Shamed into joining the war, the tide turns for Luis Wilson when he is steered into the depths of espionage. Injured and presumed missing, will he lose his heart to the very woman who presented him with a white feather?

Oshki and Jimmy offer a grim perspective on life in the trenches. They despair of ever returning home to the women who hold their hearts.

Meanwhile, Lily fights for the cause in her own way and rallies the female troops at home as prejudices run high and the local cafe owner is accused of being a spy.

Will the women of Webaashi Bay receive their men back unscathed? Can the power of love win out over insurmountable odds? All this drama and more plays out under the light of a silver moon.

Review----

I really do think this series gets better with every book. I still can't decide if I like Blue Moon or Silver Moon the best, but they're both pretty awesome. One of my favorite things about this series is that while there is romance, romance doesn't drive the story. Silver Moon has a little more romance than the others, but still, there's lots of just plain townsfolk story to read, which is very refreshing. Silver Moon actually takes place twenty years after Ruby Moon and Blue Moon, which puts us right in the throws of WWI. I think it's even harder to come up with a unique war story, but once again, this storyline is killing it. (No, that was not meant to be a macabre pun... *Face palms*) The characters, once again, are what really make this story. Even the ones that I had no intention of caring about have somehow wormed their way into my heart. Silver Moon does have a little more language (mostly mild) and other uncomfortable content, but it's still a good good story. And almost everything that annoyed me about the first book seems to have smoothed out with each successive book, and I really haven't wanted to throw this one a single time. Somehow, this two decades later story is the perfect way to wrap up the stories. (Unless there's a surprise fourth book that I don't know about :) )

{Just kidding... I looked it up and there is a fourth book. Hallelujah!}

GOOD GRIEF! This is a tearjerker. I'm sorta mad at how much I want to cry now, lol.

While I did receive a complimentary copy of this book, you're still getting my enthusiastic (and slightly spastic) honest review. As always.

BLUE MOON:

Title: Blue Moon
Series: By the Light of the Moon #2
Author: Jenny Knipfer
Release Date: December 2019
Genre: Inspirational Historical Romance

The year is 1885 and unwed Vanessa Gulet must surrender her newborn son to her married twin sister, Valerie, to raise. A seed of bitterness grows in Vanessa. When the opportunity arises for her to have what she's always wanted, Vanessa takes it despite the consequences to her family, getting more than she bargained for.

Meanwhile, Valerie, overcome with loss and grief, faces a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. Will she and her husband, Felix, forge through their trials together, or will these upsets cause them to drift apart?

Will Vanessa and Valerie remain at odds, or will they allow the power of forgiveness to heal their strained relationship?

Love seems to bloom in the most unlikely of places in Webaashi Bay for an old friend of Jenay's and a woman who owns the local dress shop. A parallel tale of love, forgiveness, and reuniting lost things is spun by a local author adding another dimension to the tale of the Gulet twins and their saga.

Guys!!! Blue Moon is such a good book. I'm actually enjoying the plotline even more than Ruby Moon. All the characters are giving me the feels: I love Vanessa and Valerie, Luis and Lily have very stolen my heart, we get to see my favorite characters from Ruby Moon again, and I hate Felix (in a good way... please tell me you get what I mean here) I fairly flew through this book... it's one of those that you can't put down once you're into it. I think the writing style is better in this one, too. (That, or I'm becoming accustomed... I'm not entirely certain. At any rate, I want to throw the book much less often than Ruby Moon) There are a few uses of mild language that do vex me, but overall, this book is INCREDIBLE! Once again, we have a very unique storyline, which I will say again, is very hard to do. I'm super impressed and I can't wait to read Silver Moon and find out what happens next. I hope we get to keep all my favorite characters' POVs, but frankly I'm rather astonished that the author can keep as many POVs going as she has and still do it quite well! Color me impressed. Also, I'm super into wanting to read the rest of Harold's novel!!!!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but as always, you get my incoherent honesty with extra exclamation points for pizzazz.

RUBY MOON:

Title: Ruby Moon
Series: By the Light of the Moon #1
Author: Jenny Knipfer
Release Date: December 2019
Genre: Inspirational Historical Romance

On the shores of Lake Superior in Ontario during the mid 1890's, Jenay, a young woman of mixed French and Ojibwe descent, must survive the trauma of causing a horrific accident.
Amidst this drama, Jenay is caught in a web spun by Renault, a rich, charming man who once threatened ruination of her father's shipping company but now seeks something even more valuable...
Jenay must find where her strength lies in order to face the challenges life brings her or be washed away like driftwood on the tumultuous shores of Lake Superior. Life's richest dramas are played out under the banner of two ruby colored moons and become the hidden gems which forge her into a mature strong woman. Jenay realizes God is by her side, using even the harsh events of life to create something precious in her.

Ruby Moon is a lovely tale of grief and growth and love and life. Oddly enough, this book that is geared towards adults has a protagonist who is 15/16 for most, if not all, of the book. I loved the characters in this story, and I'm hoping to see more of them in the coming days as I dive into Blue Moon and Silver Moon. I truly enjoyed the story and the premise of the book. I found it fairly unique, which is hard to achieve when you're on your 3000th Christian fiction ;) (I actually have no clue how many I've read... don't quote me on that, haha) There are a number of different perspectives, sometimes we switch back and forth between first and third person, sometimes between past and present tense. And the cover is gorgeous
A few things that really did bug me- there was so much telling instead of showing. A lot of descriptions of people and places were info-dumped instead of coming out naturally through dialogue or actions.  I also wish that sometimes we could have just told the story in order rather than jumping back two days in a memory. (The bigger jumps didn't bother me, but when it's just a few days, just tell it straight) The accents were also slightly distracting, and didn't produce the right sounds in my heads like most good book accents do.
Overall, I liked the book a lot and I'm excited to read the next one (Especially since this book ended on what I consider a cliffhanger) but there were still things that made me want to throw the book in frustration.

I received this book complimentary and this is my honest review.
