Ибо так возлюбил Бог мир, что отдал Сына Своего Единородного, дабы всякий верующий в Него, не погиб, но имел хизнь вечную.

Review: Dear Grandchild, This Is Me

This isn't a typical book. In fact, it's more scrapbook than anything. With a beautiful cover, you can't help but want to open it right up. There are places to fill in lots of stories, when you were young, when you were a teenager, when you passed all these milestones. There's a section to write about your heritage. Places to write crazy stories to thrill the readers. There are blank pages to put pictures on, and stickers to mount them with. (Who doesn't love stickers?!?!) My favorite feature are the built in envelopes that allow you to write letters to be opened at certain times of need. There's an awesome map where you color all the places you've been. Slots for those favorite, secret family recipes. Crazy cool pages where you weigh in on major historical events. The last part of the book is for you to share your faith, as well as a "me then and now" page. It's actually the perfect book to give your grandkids. I highly recommend getting this, whether you've been a grandparent for years or you're just getting started.

I received this book through the publisher, but I was not required to post a positive review.

Review: Let's Be Real by Natasha Bure

From The Back Cover:

A Real Life is the Best Life.

I want to help young women be open to embracing their flaws and fears, to be open-minded in accepting and supporting their friends in whatever they're dealing with, and to truly connect with each other.

We've all been there, dealing with break-outs and breakups, trying to stay true to our faith when social pressures make it challenging, and navigating our teenage years to become who we'll be.

It's so much better when we can be our true, authentic selves. And learn to be real.

Natasha Bure poured her heart into this book, Let's Be Real, and shared the reality of her life. She tore away the mask that people like to keep in place through social media or just plain old imagination. Natasha shared her struggles, her hurts, her failures. She put herself out there. And it was amazing! I could not put Let's Be Real down. It was full of funny stories, good advice, and just down-to-earth-ness that makes this "self-help" sort of book go down easily. Nothing to get stuck in your craw because this book doesn't point fingers. It's real. I love how boldly Natasha shared her faith through every chapter. And I love her approach to self-esteem by differentiating a good self-image and a boastful spirit. I definitely recommend this book! I hope you can get your hands on a copy! I've been wanting to read this since it came out, and finally ordered it on ThriftBooks. Totally worth it!!!!

CelebrateLit Tour: Journibles

About these Books

Title: Journible: The 17:18 Series
Author: Robert Wynalda (a local businessman) and Dr. Joel R. Beeke (President of Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary)
Genre: Non-fiction, Bible study tool
Release Date: Series released in 2009

Why the 17:18 series? In Deuteronomy 17, Moses is leaving final instructions concerning the future of Israel. As a prophet of God, Moses foretells of when Israel will place a king over the nation (v. 14). In verse 18, the king is commanded to not simply acquire a copy of the law (the entire book of Deuteronomy) from the scroll publishing house, but to hand write his own copy of the law. Thirty-four hundred years later, educators are discovering that students that physically write out their notes by hand have a much greater retention rate than simply hearing or visually reading the information. Apparently, God knew this to be true of the kings of Israel also. From such understanding came the conception of this series of books.
How to Use These Books Each book is organized so that you can write out your very own copy of Scripture. You will be writing the Bible text only on the right hand page of the book. This should make for easier writing and also allows ample space on the left page to write your own notes and comments. From time to time a question or word will be lightly printed on the left page; these questions are to aid in further study, but should not interfere with your own notes and comments.

The 17:18 Series

I love this so much! I absolutely would recommend this to everyone. I enjoy writing in my Journible. I have the Romans one. It is absolutely great, and there is plenty of space. I use the extra space to write down prayers. It really is wonderful, and there isn't much that I can say beyond that, except that I hope you will try it. It would be a brilliant gift! If I were in the habit of giving stars to nonfiction...which I'm not.... this would receive five stars. ;)

Review: Angels in Action by Diane Williams

This is my first non-fiction review, and so I’m going about it in a totally new and different way. Well, not totally new. But whatever. (At any rate, I’ve decided not to use stars on nonfiction.)

Angels in Action is a collection of short stories the author has put together about things that have happened in her life. The stories all contain lessons that she has learned through different circumstances in her life. The stories were great, for the most part. Each had a bit of Scripture put with it. Not all of the contents of this book are something that I would necessarily agree with, but for the most part, it’s pretty good. And there are lots of people I’m sure who would agree on everything. It is definitely food for thought and I enjoyed the writing style, as it was a pretty enjoyable read. It was also easy to read, since the stories in it were mostly stand-alone. There is surely a lesson for everyone to learn in this book. So while this isn’t a book I would have picked for myself, I don’t really regret reading it. And I finished it, which is a really big accomplishment for me where nonfiction is concerned, since I usually find it a struggle.

Sorry if the new style of review isn’t what you’d like. I just am not sure how to go about this. Nonfiction and I….. Well. It is what it is I guess, so thanks for your patience with me. I realize this isn't my greatest worded or put together review.

Thank you Diane for sending me your book.
